Character Background and Description
Jason Patrick is a 23, waiting to get out of Cape Breton Island. His short brown hair and piercing blue eyes have been known to intimidate locals and tourists alike. He has a thick brown beard, usually covered in sweat. He currently works at the cargo docks, operating machinery to load the ships. Occasionally, he also loads boxes manually and readies the ship for departure. He works with his dad at the harbor, and helps keeps his father’s cargo business afloat. Without Jason’s help, the business would have died years ago.
Jason used to be full of joy and life. However, his mother recently died of mysterious circumstances, causing Jason to become resentful of this island. Everywhere he looks, there are pictures of her, friends that knew her, and half-finished projects she left behind. Jason wants nothing more than to escape this island through one of the cargo ships, but his father deeply needs the help. Jason dreams of leaving for England and attending university for a biology degree. Though he knows its no more than a pipe dream, Jason still spends his time reading textbooks and researching various plant life in the area.
Jason’s greatest possession is a half finished sweater from his mother. It was the last thing she was holding when she passed. Although the sweater is something he would have despised wearing, he now treasures it more than life itself and keeps it hidden under his bed. Jason also has accumulated a large amount of biology textbooks and a compound microscope.
